In recognition of National Police Week, the Sea Gate Police Department hosted its 1st Annual Police Week Awards and Memorial Ceremony. Members of the Police Department were recognized for their outstanding dedication and service to the residents of the Sea Gate community. As a resident of Sea Gate for 28 years, I am so grateful to SGPD for providing my family with exceptional safety and security all these years. I am proud that as a candidate for NYC Council District 47 I have received an Endorsement of Police Benevolent Association.
Big gratitude goes to our Bravest for effectively responding to Warbasse power supply plan fire. It took firefighters less than an hour to get the fire under control. Great job! I am so proud to be one of the leading forces to save Ladder 161 (2929 West 8th Street) a few years back.
To the hundreds of my Israeli friends and relatives in Israel, I know how strong you all are. I know how strong Israel is. I was with you after the tragedy at the Dolphinarium. I was with you after Sbarro restaurant suicide bombing. I was with you in 2002 when bullets were flying into Gilo, I was with you in 20016 when Haifa was under attack and in 2008 when rockets were falling on Sderot and Ashkelon. Now due to COVID restrictions I can’t join you physically but I am standing with you spiritually. You are going to overcome because Hashem is always with you. In my heart and soul I am standing strong with Israel.
Former Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny congratulated the owners and staff of La Tombola Restaurant for opening a new place on the site of the legendary Childs Restaurant at the Riegelmann Boardwalk location. “This is great news for our community, a great step in Coney Island’s revitalization,” said Alec.
Coney Island legend Jimmy Prince has passed away. The former butcher closed his shop on Mermaid Avenue back in 2009 after six decades of service to the community. Alec Brook-Krasny called him “A wonderful man who loved his community. He will be deeply missed.”

Former State Assembly Member Alec Brook-Krasny criticized the NYC Department of Education’s decision to remove Columbus Day as a school holiday, saying “What we teach our children in school will define 21st century America. Italian Americans have made powerful contributions to our nation, and they view Columbus as a symbol of Italian pride. We can honor indigenous peoples and their struggles without attacking Italian Americans or erasing the great contributions they have made to America.”

“We will rebuild!” Alec Brook-Krasny spoke as a legislator and a resident of Sea Gate, after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Accompanying him were Senator Gillibrand, Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano, Congressmembers Nadler, Maloney and Jeffries, and many community and government leaders.
“We have great people here in this community, Brook-Krasny said, “We had 14 million people visiting Coney Island from all over the world. Sandy set us back. In a few months, a few years, we will rebuild again. We have very strong people in this community, right here, a lot of immigrants who went through a lot, like myself. We’re going to rebuild, we’re going to win, with all of you.”
